BODINE PICNIC AREA DEDICATION
Bodine is a name you see quite frequently at the Pink Palace. The Museum has the Bodine Exhibit Hall. There are Bodine-funded education programs in the Sharpe Planetarium and now, we have the Bodine Picnic Area.
The Bodine Picnic Area was dedicated Wednesday, May 6, 2009, with guests of honor, Dick and Peggy Bodine. Students and staff from the Bodine School were also invited. There were speeches and gifts, and most of all, friendship and appreciation.
Dick and Peggy Bodine’s generosity to the Pink Palace Family of Museums is inspiring and humbling. Their generosity to the Bodine School is simply life changing. Dr. Rene Friemoth Lee, Principal of the Bodine School says, “… they are blessed in Dick and Peggy’s belief that a little school can make a big difference in the lives of children. At the Bodine School, the students get love and acceptance and it is then easy for them to give back. They know and understand what the Bodines have done for them.”
The Bodine Picnic Area is a very appropriate way to honor Dick and Peggy Bodine. It is a place on the Pink Palace lawn where generations of school kids have come to eat and play after a visit to the Museum. It is a place where children smile, laugh and learn. Now, thanks to the Bodines, it always will be. As Peggy Bodine puts it, “If you want to learn, nothing is going to stop you, and we are here to help.”
The Museum and the Bodine School wanted to take a moment and make a place to say thank you to Dick and Peggy Bodine. “All kinds of connections are made when you get friends together,” according to Director of Museums Steve Pike. And the Bodine Picnic Area is one of the best connections of all.
