Part Time Instructor
Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week, with weekday morning
availability desired. Occasional weekend and evening
work required. Not to exceed 1040 hours per calendar
year.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Develops and/or presents educational programs in the labs, classrooms, and mansion theater.
* Develops and/or presents interpretive programming in the changing and permanent exhibit galleries, utilizing artifacts and other manipulatives. Enhances the museum experience by orienting groups and individuals to the exhibits, directing traffic flow, and providing interpretation.
* Inventories contents of Suitcase Exhibits, traveling trunks of teaching objects which are circulated by the museum to area schools.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
* Facilitates the use of the IMAX Discovery Room by school groups and other visitors. Presents after school programming (ASAP) to youth groups. Participates in care of live animal collection.
* Assists in customer service, special events, administrative and clerical activities.
* Performs additional functions which may be assigned.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
& WORKING CONDITIONS
* Requires walking and standing for long periods, stooping and climbing stairs and lifting program materials which weigh up to approximately 30 pounds.
* Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with general public and staff.
* Majority of work performed in museum exhibit galleries, labs and offices with occasional work performed outdoors.
* Will come in contact with live animals in the teaching collection and will be exposed to dust, allergens such as animal hair.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Must be a resident of the city of Memphis.
* College degree in science, education or related field or any combination of experience or training.
* Content knowledge of Life Science, Earth and Space Science and or Physical science.
* Knowledge of basic computer software
