Pink Palace Museum Community Engagement Internship
Dates: May 21 – July 30, 2018 (11 weeks)
Hours: 10-15 hours a week (will include some weekends and evenings)
This is an unpaid postion.
The Pink Palace Museum is developing new models for integrated community engagement for the 2019 Memphis Bicentennial Exhibit, "Making Memphis: 200 Years of Community." The Exhibition Department will conduct a series of community engagement efforts starting in April 2018 until October 2018. Interns will assist in photographing, recording, and collecting opinions of Memphians offsite and at the Pink Palace Museum. These submissions will be installed into the exhibit as a mural, listening station, and a three-dimensional Word Could.
Assisting museum staff at various community organizations, events, and the Pink Palace
Answering questions and providing information about the exhibit
Distributing and collecting content release forms
Photographing participants portraits for the mural
Assisting in collecting and organizing Word Cloud submissions
Recording "sound bite" responses for the listening station
Collecting any comments and suggestions
Strong oral and written communication skills
Comfortable with large groups of people and one-on-one interaction
Flexible schedule (including weekends and evenings)
Comfortable using iPads, computers, and Nikon camera equipment
Comfortable working outdoors during the summer for extended periods of time
An undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in community outreach and engagement
