Scarecrow Building Contest & Exhibit

Put This Year's Annual Scarecrow Exhibit & Building Contest on Your Calendar

Each year, individuals, families, senior centers, scouts, clubs, classrooms, artists, and others create scores of scarecrows... life-sized, ecological, green, scary, silly, funny and educational.

These scarecrows are displayed outdoors October 1 through November 28 along trails through the forest, lake & meadow. Everything from creation, installation, and voting for your favorite scarecrow can be enjoyed social-distancing style!

Put your talent and imagination into creating an amazing scarecrow for Lichterman Nature Center's annual Scarecrow Contest.

Each entry receives a frame, a sign with name of Scarecrow & creator, and a free group self-guided visit for the displays. Please contact our Reservations Desk - Nature.Reservations [at] memphistn [dot] gov or call 901.636.2221 to schedule your visit.

Congratulations to last year's winners, and thanks to our sponsors and all who participated.

Attention Teachers & Students

Try out some activities as you explore the Scarecrows!

The Scarecrows display is one of Lichterman Nature Center’s coolest annual offerings! Students can explore and work in groups to learn more about Scarecrow Lore but they can be “Scarecrow Scavengers” as they hunt (in groups led by Teachers or Chaperones) and sort these interesting creations or even have their own Scarecrow Judging Contest and decide which is their favorite Scarecrow of all.
