Pink Palace Mansion Re-Opening Dec. 8th
After nearly two years of renovation and construction, the highly anticipated re-opening of the Pink Palace Mansion will be taking place December 8th. The re-opening will be the premiere of the Mansion’s new and refurbished exhibits including a totally reconstructed original Piggly Wiggly Store replica and Country Store, along with a restored Clyde Parke Miniature Circus.
The Clyde Parke Miniature Circus exhibit will reside on the second story of the Mansion which has not been open to the public since 1978. “The second story hasn’t been open to the public for 40 years, so this will be a great opportunity for many visitors to see a side of the Mansion they’ve never seen,“ said Bill Walsh, Marketing Manager at the Pink Palace Family of Museums.
The Pink Palace Museum is bringing back some of their most popular exhibits and artifacts to the Mansion such as the Cossitt Library which will include the Cossitt Gallery that will recreate the first museum in Memphis. There will be over 600 artifacts on display similar to how they were shown in the early 19th century.
In addition to bringing back to life some of the Museum’s favorite exhibits, the Mansion will house plush new event rental facilities, state-of-the art lighting and a refurbished grand staircase,” said Walsh.
Construction is nearing completion with the next phase being the installation of the exhibits. “The exhibits are going to be spectacular. We’re excited that it’s re-opening during the holidays too. It’s sort of a holiday gift for Memphians,” continued Walsh.
