Fossil Fest

March 27, 2021 | March 27 & 28
Fossil Fest Mosasaur

Something everyone can dig.

Activities on the lawn - Noon - 4pm both days.

inside activities:

Saturday: 10:30am - 5pm

Sunday: Noon -5pm

It’s not every day you have the chance to dig for fossils millions of years old like a real paleontologist. Fossil Fest at the Pink Palace Museum of Science & History is your opportunity. Not only will visitors be able to try their hand at paleontology (study of the history of life on Earth as based on fossils), but corn hole, ladder toss and other fun activities too. Visitors can enjoy a new Museum of Science & History (MoSH) beer made by Ghost River Brewery, and see the unveiling of a new giant metal mosasaur sculpture created by the Memphis Metal Museum.

The public is invited to travel back in time some 70 million of years as MoSH and its properties come together for a two-day, paleontology party. Guests can dig through matrix (earth from Coon Creek dig site) and discover fossils and shells millions of years old. They will be able to take a journey through the Mesozoic era including the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous Periods following a timeline of dinosaur evolution.

The front lawn will be home to a host of tables, talks and activities including a Lichterman Nature Center station with plant fossils and an Owl Pellet dissection activity. Discover specimens from our collections department. Walk like a dinosaur with giant cut out dinosaur footprints.
